"Miracles and Coincidence"
And amazement
seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “We
have seen extraordinary things today.”
- Luke 5:26
In Matthew 16 verses 1-4, church leaders ask Jesus for a
miracle so that they might believe. Jesus
refuses their request.
I think maybe there are a lot of people who feel like,
without seeing a miracle themselves, they cannot believe in God. I chuckle at that and ask them to look
harder.
Think for a minute about life. Our biology classes teach us that two cells
(an egg and a sperm) unite, and then from that they divide and divide until
they create a person. Some cells migrate
to form eyes, some a heart, some hair, some fingers and toes. From just those two tiny cells we get stem
cells, and blood cells (both white and red), muscle cells, skin cells and many,
many more types of cells – all doing their own very unique jobs. Not a miracle?
Heck, I think every time a child is born it is a miracle!
Or consider Earth hurtling through the universe. It is perfectly tuned for life with
fundamental constants and quantities that have been dialed to an exceedingly
narrow life permitting range. If any one
of these numbers was altered even a little, no life could exist. See this video: Finely Tuned
In truth, miracles are ALL AROUND US, we just need to see
them for what they are. The same goes
for the things we label “coincidence”.
What if, when we experienced a "remarkable concurrence of
events or circumstances without apparent causal connection" (Webster’s
definition), instead of thinking, “what a coincidence”, we saw the hand of
God.
Every day God is actively working in our world, performing
miracles and wonders, but Satan - who is also working, will do everything in
his power to get you to cast a blind eye to it.
Don’t be fooled!
