"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your path straight." - Proverbs 3:5
Today I had the opportunity to share a coffee with a beautiful new friend. She was under a great deal of stress as she worked to try to find the best possible care solution for a sick and aging father.
Such a task is a huge responsibility and my friend was bearing the weight of it on her own because other family members were not able to help.
As I thought about her this morning THIS verse kept coming to mind.
I think sometimes we take on too much and try to control situations that were never ours in the first place. I know I am guilty of it.
In these moments we forget that the God who wants us to call Him "father" is there for us. He is the same God that parted the waters of the Red Sea, healed many from their ailments, raised Jesus from the dead - and He wants us to trust that He knows our needs and wants the best for us.
Abraham is considered the "father" of 3 religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Muslim - and there is a point in the Bible where God makes a wild promise to Abraham and he believes, "and it is credited to him as righteousness" (Genesis 15:6).
God wants the best for us. In Matthew 7:9-11 Jesus told his disciples, "“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!"
This means when I am facing a tough situation, I need to do 3 things:
- Recognize it is not all up to me
- Invite God into the problem
- Trust Him in His wisdom to understand the problem, and to direct my path.
