All that I have seen has taught me to trust God for all that I have not seen - Ralph Waldo Emerson
The quote above is one that a friend I met in 1991 sent me this week. At the time she didn’t include the author and it is only in looking it up today that I found it was Ralph Waldo Emerson. That made me chuckle because my mother’s maiden name was Waldo and some genealogy research that my grandma has done shows a connection to old Ralph.
If
we remember that THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES – the fact that Ralph is the author
of the quote, to me is just one more proof of the point!
God
is working all around us at all times. Further,
Romans 8:28 tells us He is working all things for good.
Sometimes
that fact is hard to believe and trust because we think, “How could a good God
allow the evil and chaos we see in our world?”
But God has given us “free will”, and in doing so, He has allowed us to
make choices that are evil and chaotic; choices that cause damage and hurt and suffering
and pain.
Yes,
He could have created automatons – little robots that He commanded to love Him…but
that isn’t the nature of the relationship that He wants. He wants our love. He wants our trust. He wants us to want Him.
God
is playing the “long game”, one in which - through hearing the good news of the
gospel, people choose a life with Him.
In the meantime, He gives us little miracles and wonders that can’t help
but point us to His existence.
Today I challenge you to open your eyes to God, and if you see Him, to shoot me a quick note and let me know!
