APRIL FOOLS

Today is April Fool’s day!  When I was little, this was a fun day because it is the one on which my mom would invariably serve us green eggs (and ham), and green milk before sending us off to school.

I haven’t played any good April Fool’s Day jokes in a while but there are lots of funny ones on the internet I’d like to try.  If you’re looking for ideas here are a few:

  • Wrap a rubber band around the sprayer nozzle at the kitchen sink so that when someone turns on the water, they’ll get doused
  • Fill a Krispy Kreme donut box with veggies and take it to work.
  • Tell your family you’ve made The book of Proverbs was written by King Solomon for his son.  Hem “brownies” – and point them to the 9x9 pan covered in foil.  Inside have a “batch” of letter E’s cut from brown construction paper.

The Bible talks about fools a LOT.

In the book of 1st Kings, we are told that when Solomon was very young, he was made King of the Israelite people.  Then the Lord appeared to him and said, “Ask me for whatever you want me to give you.”

Now, Solomon could have asked for money, or power, for fame, or long life – but instead, the Bible says he asked for wisdom so that he would be a good ruler.  God was so impressed that He granted that request and gave him all the other things to boot!

Many of the words recorded in the book of Proverbs were written by King Solomon.  They are little “tidbits” of wisdom that Solomon wanted to share with his son.  One of my favorites can be found in Proverbs 18:2 –

“A fool finds no pleasure in understanding, but delights in airing his own opinions”.

Ain’t that the truth!

If we go about our lives thinking ours is the only opinion that matters, and we leave no space in our hearts or heads for the thoughts of others – we are foolish.

I’ve heard it said that God gave people two ears and one mouth hoping they would speak only ½ as much as they listened.

And Abraham Lincoln has been quoted as saying, “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!”

In a world in which divisiveness reigns and people seem OBSESSED with airing their own opinions on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and IFunny, I think taking this proverb to heart and seeking to understand others before adding our own “two cents,” is a very wise course of action indeed.
