Lost
In Space (part 1)
When
I was little my dad cultivated a love of fantasy and sci-fi with daddy/daughter
viewings of shows like Batman, Star Trek, and Lost in Space.
One
of my favorites was Lost in Space and it surprises me that today while thinking
about it I FINALLY got the connection.
The Robinsons of the TV show were very much the SPACE version of Swiss
Family Robinson…Duh!
Anyway,
a few years ago I had the opportunity to see a never-before-aired pilot of the
show. While this episode did NOT include
the robot or Dr. Smith, there were plenty of adventures and danger.
There
was the:
- Crashed ship with a gaping hole in it
- Threat of freezing to death in -100 degree weather
- Giant one-eyed monster
- A lost child, and
- A terrific flood and whirlpool
In
the last scene, we hear John Robinson reading from his journal as we watch him
pull out a Bible and lead the family on one knee in prayer.
Wait
– back it up – kneeling in prayer?
YES!
Director
Irwin Allen thought prayer would be the perfect and natural response when
facing trouble, and I must say that I agree.
In
our own lives the monsters we face are probably not one-eyed, and the floods
that threaten to overwhelm us are most often not physical ones, but seeking the
aid and provision of God continues to be the right reaction.
When
Max was a bit younger, he learned a wonderful “go-to” verse while at Spring Hill
Camp. Its words are the ones I often
look to when I need a reminder that God is bigger than anything I face.
“Fear
not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen and protect you. I will uphold you with my righteous
right-hand.” –
Isaiah 41:10
May these words be of comfort to you when you face troubles in your day!
