TRUTH
In the animated film, The Incredibles, the evil villain Syndrome proclaims, “When Everyone is Super, NO ONE WILL BE!”
That’s
the way I feel when I hear someone talking about “their truth”.
There
is a meme I’ve seen that proponents of relativism often use to make their
point. It is two men on opposite sides
of a number written on the ground. One
sees it as a six, the other as a nine.
The meme concludes both are right.
But that is not true.
Sure,
everyone has a right to their opinion.
But opinions are NOT truth. And
if everyone’s “truth” is equally valid – then there is no truth at all.
About
a year back I watched Sadie Robertson (originally from Duck Dynasty fame) give
a talk entitled “Your Truth is Not My Truth.”
It was a brilliant piece that claimed the Urban Dictionary defined “my
truth” as a “non-negotiable personal opinion”.
Truth=Non-Negotiable
Opinion. How absurd.
People
can argue with opinion – however, we’re not supposed to argue with truth. Even when it’s “my truth”, and I think that
is something that has Satan clapping his hands gleefully.
Proverbs
14:12 says, “There is a path that seems right to man, but in the end it
leads to death.”
Folks,
there is only ONE truth. It’s God’s truth.
In
John 14:6 Jesus tells his disciples, “I am the way, the truth and the
life. No one comes to the father except
through me.”
Free
will enables us to choose a truth that is different than His. However, if we do, we need to know there are
consequences. We don’t get to God and
eternal life through OUR TRUTH, we get there through THE TRUTH.
