The Dad I Know…
My husband’s father has 7 children – and the relationship each of his children has with him is very, very different.
I think that’s kind of the way
it is with God.
Some children see God as a
lofty persona, a super-being who created the universe, but who is too busy/great/uncaring/preoccupied
to care about them as individuals. Their
God must seem very passive.
Others, see God as a judge. An omnipotent being who sits on His throne
and waits for them to make a mistake… I would think that sort of God causes
fear and intimidation.
Other children claim a
relationship with God, but really know nothing about Him, and in truth have
never made an effort to find out. I feel
like their God is a figment of their imagination.
And there are some who only
see the Father on Christmas or Easter, or maybe not at all... Their God is
distant.
The God I know is loving,
caring, merciful, funny, and creative.
He loves it when I tell Him jokes (even though He’s heard them
all). He lets me know that He’s watching
me when He “winks” with a sign that only I recognize, one I know is
especially for ME. He tells me I’m
beautiful, even when I’m not feeling it.
He has banished the monsters under my bed and in the closet. He has forgiven me every single time I messed
up…and just like the relationship I am currently experiencing with MY son, I
know He’d like more time with me than I often give.
I remember being a kid on the
playground, and comparing my Dad to those of my classmates…. I think if I was back there today, I’d tell
you my (Heavenly) Dad is my hero, the coolest guy I know!

Holy smokes, I just realized
this post doesn’t have a single Bible verse in it. That’s not right, so here’s one I think fits
with today’s theme… “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been
revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be
like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” – 1 John 3:2
