God in all things -
Each week in Nicaragua we have been exploring the concept – God in All Things.
Of course, it is easy to see Him in nature – the majesty of the landscape, the shockingly beautiful color of the dragon fruit, the power of the thunderstorms…
But more than anything, I have seen Him in the people.
I have been asked why I wanted to come here for 7 weeks this summer, and in truth – it is because when you are working alongside those who are unencumbered by the trappings of our American life – what you get is love the way I believe Jesus intended. Neighbors help neighbors. They welcome strangers. They offer themselves and their possessions without a thought about cost. They are genuinely gracious. They are genuinely loving. They are genuinely kind.
The Bible book of Acts describes a community very much like the one I have been experiencing while I am here…
“All who believed
were together and held everything in common and they began selling their
property and possessions and distributing the proceeds to everyone, as anyone
had needed. Every day they continued to
gather together by common consent in the temple courts, breaking bread from
house to house, sharing their food with glad and humble hearts, praising God
and having the good will of all the people.
And the Lord was adding to their number every day those who were being
saved.” Acts 2 –
44-47
God calls us to love, and in Nicaragua – LOVE is abundant.
As I witness
love in its purest form, I know that if we who call ourselves Christian, were to
treat others like the people of San Benito have treated us – our light would truly
be a beacon in an often too dark world…
