Can I Pray For You?

When someone asks the question, “Can I pray for you?”, your answer should always be, “yes.”

That is because prayer has the power to heal - “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

And when we pray together we experience God’s presence, “For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:20

Prayers can alleviate worry - “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

And finally, prayers are the key to making the impossible possible:

  • “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:13-14)
  • “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (Matthew 21:22)
  •  “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24)

Yesterday I woke up with a goopy eye.  My face was swollen, the white of my eye - pink.  I thought, “Oh great, what is this!?!?”  And when my new friend, Kevin Queen, asked if he could pray for me, I immediately answered, “yes,” trusting those prayers would be what I needed.  And today, my eye has stopped hurting, and it is no longer swollen, pink or goopy.  Thanks Kevin. Thanks God.

Prayers are powerful.  Let us remember to look for opportunites to pray for others; and certainly if someone ever asks if they can pray for us - say, "YES!"
