Do Something
Amigos for Christ is an amazing organization that in 2022:
- ·
Helped over 7,000 people in rural Nicaragua get
access to clean water
- ·
Built 346 new modern bathrooms, and 94 clean
air kitchens
- ·
Renovated 14 public school buildings
- ·
Provided microloans to fund new business
development
- ·
Saw an incredible 99.4% attendance rate at
their Amigos for Christ Academy
- ·
Hosted over 300 volunteers
- ·
Managed a $10M budget
- ·
Employed nearly 200 people
I don’t suspect that any of this was something John or Sabrina Bland could have imagined when they came to Nicaragua – saw that there were so many people living without access to clean running water, and decided, “we should try to do something about that.”
However, that’s kind of the way God works. He calls you to action, and then He leads you, step-by-step with what comes next. And clearly, God is working in this place…
I think as Christians, many of us would like to do something AWESOME for God, but in waiting for the inspiration for AWESOME, we tend to overlook the opportunities that are staring us in the face right now.
There is a poem I once read while working at Ford. It went something like this: This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody though Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.
Sometimes I think I’m guilty of falling into this trap. Seeing a problem, but thinking someone else with more time, talent or resources will handle it….
Matthew West sings a song I really like titled DO SOMETHING. It talks about seeing all of the injustice, poverty, and strife in the world, shaking your fist at heaven and asking, “God, why don’t you do something!?” and then God responding, “I did…I created YOU!”
Today – don’t let waiting to do something GREAT for God, stop you from doing something small for Him right now. Who knows…He might be leading you, just like He did John and Sabrina.
“Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” – Proverbs 16:3
