Fourth of July

I suspect that since today is a holiday, this post will not have many that read it - however, it is one I am compelled to write.

When our country was founded, there was an eye toward God.  You can see it:

  • In the Declaration of Independence, which claims - we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights.
  • On our currency, which declares "In God We Trust"
  • In our Pledge of Allegiance, which calls us "One Nation Under God"

However I am not so sure that God and what was once a firm foundation for our nation, is still as revered as it once was.

Psalm 33:12 says, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own interitance."

As I write today's post I am sitting in Nicaragua, and I can see very clearly how God has blessed the people of the United States - and how so many of the things I take for granted living there, are simply a factor of where I was born.

Today, as we commemorate the Fourth of July, and we eat our hot dogs and hamburgers, watch our parades and fireworks, and celebrate the great nation that is the United States of America, let us remember to thank God for all of His blessings.
