Midnight Laundry
Today has been a long hard day. There was a lot of work involved in getting the Amigos facility ready for 100+ people, and I’ve been up since 5:30. But because the groups came in waves, there were three separate welcomes, and three orientations, and three dinners and three sets of clean up…and I feel like I’ve been on my feet all day. However, somewhere in the midst of it - I ended up putting a load of laundry in the washing machine….
But as I was getting ready to head to bed I remembered my laundry and I went to hang it all up to dry, only to find that the washer had stopped mid-cycle and my clothes were sitting in a tub full of water. I wanted to cry - or to swear - or to SOMETHING!
The remedy that worked was to unplug it, then start the cycle over again. Which now means I’ll most likely be up doing
laundry until midnight. So now instead of bed, I'll use this time to write about whatever connections I can make from this expe…
Ha! God
is so good!!! As
I was sitting in the Rancho all alone, writing that last word - a man came out
of the men’s dormitory. He
said he had just taken a shower and realized that he had left some of his
clothes (in particular the ones he would need tomorrow), in one of the
“donation” bags he had brought down with him. He asked if I knew where the bags had been
moved.
I did not. However a few texts and a talk with the
security guard told me they had been moved into the office. So we got the guard to open the office and
there were the bags! The
man retrieved his clothes and thanked me for being up.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I do not
believe in coincidences. So,
the fact that the washing machine randomly gave out mid-cycle so that I had to
stay up late - allowed
me to be hanging out in the Rancho available to help the man who needed
it this evening.
And isn’t that why I volunteered this summer? To help people that needed it?
So Midnight laundry means God knows EXACLY what He is doing, even if at the time it feels frustrating to me. Thanks God!
