Temporary Housing
My room at the Amigos for Christ complex is an interior one, and as I stepped into the hallway this morning I noticed that the outside temperature was at least 10 degrees cooler than inside my room. The heat, plus the microfiber sheets that are on my bed, make for fairly uncomforable sleeping conditions, but since my housing is only temporary - I'm not going to worry about it too much...
And as I was thinking about that this morning - I was able to see the parallel to life on Earth.
We are ALL CURRENTLY in temporary housing. As Christians, our HOME is not of this world. Hebrews 13:14 says, "For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come."
And Philippias 3:20 reminds us, "But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ."
Then finally there is John 14:2 which says, "My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?"
These verses serve as a reminder that our experiences in this world are temporary. Here, there will be discomfort, sadness, mouring, loss, and pain - but we should persevere because we know that we are living in temporary housing...there is a place for us in heaven where "He will wipe ever tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." - Revelation 21:4
