Rooted in Scripture

I started my morning with nothing on paper and no thoughts on what the blog would be about today.  My “reserves” were empty - as there was no pre-written post that I could use, and I was anxious about a topic. I had a lot of things rolling around in my head: the Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18), the Hope of Heaven, Faith…but nothing felt quite right.

I kept thinking I should probably spend a little time reading my Bible.  It’s been a while since I spent any real or quality time there…So I picked up my phone and opened my You Version Bible app. and got one of the biggest God winks I’d had in a while.  The picture and words above were staring back at me.

These words feel as if they were written just for me. I needed them.  My soul was craving them.  My life HAS changed, but He is constant.

Psalm 1:1-3 reminds me rooting myself in scripture is the right course of action as well.

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.”

The Bible is a marvelous collection of stories, history, prose and poetry.  It was written over a period of 1500 years, by approximately 40 people of very different backgrounds.  Together it offers wisdom and guidance, and it points to the truth of Jesus and the promise of salvation.

For too long lately I have let my Bible sit idly by - resting on the table - waiting for me to pick it up.  And since today is August 11th, I decided to google “Bible 8:11” to see if there was anything I could begin with.  Google directed me to Romans 8:11 which says, “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”

I’m fully smiling now as  this is the SAME verse I received from my friend, Tom Glendening this morning…I think I am on the right track.

Today, maybe you are feeling a little like I did when I woke up.  Empty.  Directionless. Anxious...then I urge you to pick up your Bible and let the words that are there be like water to your soul.
