I'm not a Democrat but I play one on TV...

Yeah - I'm going here...politics.

This morning I woke up to the clip clop of horse hooves outside my window.  And as I opened my eyes the purple flowers of the wallpaper, and the pink yellow and white flowered wallpaper on the ceiling made me smile.

Jim and I are vacationing at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

If you've never been there, but have seen the movie Somewhere In Time - it's THAT hotel.  Large and stately, built in just 90 days as a haven for the Chicago crowd escaping the heat and animals in the late 1800s, this place is magnificent.

It calls itself "A New Kind of Old-Fashioned Getaway", and rooms are VERY VERY pricey.

In fact, if you were in one of their luxurious lakeview rooms with a king sized bed, you could pay anywhere from $800 - over $1000 a night, depending on the season.  Ridiculous!!! (and not what we're paying BTW).  But, even with sky high prices, the hotel boasts a near 100% occupancy rate.

I think about that - just 10-12 rooms for one night would fund the well I'm trying to build in honor of Dad.  A well that would provide clean running water to over 100 families that have never had THAT luxury.

The truth is, I typically vote Republican and believe LESS government is what we need.  But in saying that - it means I think WE THE PEOPLE are the ones who should be helping to provide for the less fortunate.  It means I think that we are the ones who need to be tithing, and giving to charities, and helping people who need a "hand up" to get out of a difficult situation.

And if we're NOT doing that - SHAME ON US!

The Bible talks about this a lot...

"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." - James 1:27

"But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?" - 1 John 3:17

"When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it.  It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands." - Deuteronomy 24:19

If God has blessed you, it is because He means for you to use those blessings to help others.
