Something's Happening
In January, after football player Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest in a game, ESPN anchor Dan Orlovsky went past "our thoughts and prayers are with him", and actually offered an on-air prayer to God asking for strength, healing and comfort for Damar, and peace the player's family.
In February, what began as a regularly scheduled church service for students attending Asbury College in Kentucky - morphed into a multi-week revival that brought over 50,000 people from all over the world to campus.
Earlier this year - a movie titled "The Jesus Revolution" was released. Audiences loved it, and my friend says it is partly responsible for her daughter turning toward Christ.
This past weekend I read a story about an event that recently occurred at Auburn University in Alabama. Following a "Night of Worship" hundreds of students walked into a nearby lake to be baptized.
And finally, last night I went to see another movie called, "Route 60" about the road that runs through Israel from Nazareth to Beersheba. The movie is a documentary that tells the stories about the ties that places along the road have to Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths. The theatre was packed.
All around me - I am watching as people are "waking up" to Jesus. But sadly too - all around me I see people who are "too busy," too comfortable, or too blinded by Satan's lies and promises, to even notice...
In talking about what we should do in response, 1 Timothy 2:1-6 says: "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has not been witnessed to all at the proper time."
So friends, just like Dan - I don't want to just ASK you to pray - I want you to pray with me, with words from scripture:
God, we know that the god who rules this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers. They cannot see the light, which is the good news about our glorious Christ who shows what God is like (2 Corinthians 4:4). Jesus you told the people, I am the way, the truth and the life. The only way to the Father is through me (John 14:6). We ask then that you use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. ...destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). Open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God (Acts 26:16). Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel (Ephesians 6:19). Amen.
