The Middle ...
The Middle...when I think of THE MIDDLE I think of things like:
- The Middle of Nowhere - a scary place to be.
- The Middle Child (which even has a syndrome named after it)
- The Middle of an Oreo Cookie (delightful) - and,
- A while back even a show called The Middle (l loved Patricia Heaton in her role here but hated her character in Everyone Loves Raymond...go figure).
Anyway, the Middle chapter of the Bible is 118. And although the actual "books" of the Bible were assembled by scribes and, according to the History Channel, not put into their current form until sometime in the fifth century, I think that IN this form... there are some interesting things to note:
- Psalm 117, the one directly BEFORE Psalm 118 is the shortest chapter of the Bible.
- Psalm 119, the one directly AFTER Psalm 118, is the longest chapter of the Bible.
- The Bible has 594 chapters before Psalm 118, and 594 after Psalm 118 - and if you call up all the chapters EXCEPT Psalm 118, you get a total of 1188 chapters.
- 1188, or Psalm 118, verse 8 is the MIDDLE VERSE of the entire Bible.
And that verse - the MIDDLE verse, says this:
"It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man." - Psalm 118:8
This verse - this MIDDLE, or CORE (as one of Webster's Dictionary synonyms) of the Bible reveals a very important truth...
And, if - like me, you don't believe in coincidences, then it also lends credence to the notion that the Bible is God's handiwork, created for us to give us a roadmap. One that can help lead us from NOWHERE to SOMEWHERE - the best somewhere possible!
