You Won Restaurant Roulette!


The other day my 25 year old niece Emma told the story about a recent trip to Canada with some of her girlfriends.  The friends ended up eating at a Michelin star restaurant that my niece said was amazing.  She said the food was incredible, the service was awesome and the prices - well, there were pretty amazing too.

At one point she suggested that it would be fun if restaurants of this caliber had a sort of game called "restaurant roulette" where once a night or once a month a party would go in, order their food and wine, enjoy their meal, but when it came time to pay the bill - they'd be told they'd "won restaurant roulette" and their meal was free!

She thought it would be a great business booster, and people who won would be amazing advertisements for the restaurant.

Well, after they finished their meal the girls were talking about how they would divide the check and the waiter came up and said, "don't worry about it - you've won restaurant roulette!"  Apparently he'd heard them talking and liked the idea so much he talked to his boss who comped their meal.

As Emma recounted the story she was beaming.  "Can you imagine," she asked "the entire meal was free!"

I thought about that as it relates to heaven.

Just like the girls at the Michelin star restaurant - we've WON and the price has been paid.  And just like restaurant roulette - there isn't a single thing we did to deserve it, no action we took that could have earned it.  It was a gift - freely offered and given.

The only step for us now is that we need to go out and be a good advertisement!

The Journey to the Cross (Day 4 - THE LADDER)

In the city of Jerusalem stands a church called  The Church of the Holy Sepulcher.   It has been proposed as the place of both the death and resurrection of Jesus, and it has been a place for pilgrimages since the 4th century. Considered holy, the site is cared for by no less than six denominations including Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Roman Catholic, Coptic, Ethiopian and Syriac Orthodox.  As such, it has been carefully parsed out into sections.  And sadly, arguments and violent clashes are not uncommon. The Journey to the Cross (Day 3 - ONLY JESUS)

Today’s Holy Week post has me thinking about the 12 disciples. ONLY JESUS Can you name Jesus' 12 disciples?  If you've been watching The Chosen or reading your Bible regularly, you might be able to.  However - there are some, who - at least for me, are a bit in the shadows. Sure I know Simon/Peter, and his brother Andrew .  And then there was James and John, the sons of Thunder (or Zebedee to be exact).  There was Matthew, and Thomas, and Judas Iscariot.  And there was Simon the Zealot, and another James...but...but...a nd here is where my mind isn't as good at remembering.   So I Googled it.
