OR
If you study computer engineering, you know the symbol above is an OR logic gate.
"OR"
Such a simple little word - OR.
Just two letters. Two. Tiny. Little. Letters...
But as my pastor pointed out yesterday, that tiny two letter word will determine the entire direction and quality of our lives both now, and in the hereafter.
His way OR (there's that word!) my way.
Life to the full - or life full of shame, hurt, and regret.
Both the Old and New Testament talk about the wisdom of living life in submission to God.
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night." - Psalm 1:1-2
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wises man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it." - Matthew 7:24-27
But God gave us free will, and with that gift comes our ability to choose.
French poet Charles Baudelaire once said, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled is convincing the world he didn't exist."
Friends - the devil DOES exist and he wants nothing more than to pull you off track by making "wrong" seem "right" and "evil" seem "good". He would LOVE for you to believe that none of it matters, and being a "cafeteria Christian" is okay.
Just like he did with Eve, Satan will try to convince you that you are smart enough to pick and choose which of God's decrees you'd like to follow, and which you can neglect...but DO NOT BE DECEIVED. There is a battle being waged for your soul, and God says that if you TRULY love him, you will keep His commands.
"For this is the love of God: that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not grievous." - 1 John 5:3
