When I Grow Up...
Today is Monday. That means back to work for most of the world...so today, we'll talk about work - and what my next job looks like...
In total, I worked at or for Ford Motor Company for 32 years. While I was there I had at least 13 different jobs.
My favorites, and the ones I was truly good at, were the ones where I was working with PEOPLE - LOTS of PEOPLE...jobs like customer service, special liaison, trainer, group leader, and technician career development and recognition manager. You see, I LOVE PEOPLE - and in all honesty, it is only after 9 months working in "pandemic-conditions" where the only people that I saw were via zoom calls, that I decided I'd had enough, and I retired.
The jobs I reveled in, were ones my husband would hate - for I am EXREMELY social. He is not at all.
Even when we go on mission trips - I LOVE working and making personal connections. He loves working - period. His favorite day of the week (typically my least favorite) is "farm day", when he can work WITHOUT interacting with a bunch of people. That's what I like least about the day...
In the Bible we are told "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." - Colossians 3:24
And while I think "working for the Lord" is what got me through years of jobs I wasn't well suited for, and consequently didn't like - in the end I think it is much easier to "work for Him" in jobs he gave us the skills, talents and abilities for.
"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently, if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully." - Romans 12:6-8
This morning are you going to a job you love? One God has put into your heart? One where the work you do brings joy to your soul because you enjoy it, and are good at it. If not, I want you to consider this:
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:10
The skills, the talents, the abilities, the likes and dislikes that are what make you YOU, are the things GOD put in you when He created you. He gave you these things - because He has certain jobs for you in mind. Ones that will bring you joy, and will advance His kingdom at the same time. God created you to be your BEST SELF, and you can only do that when you are using your unique talents and abilities in your daily work.
Think about that...and have a great day!
