Choose out!


"But mark this:  There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God - having a form of godliness but denying its power.  Have nothing to do with such people." - 2 Timothy 3:1-5

I feel this.  And if we are not here already - I think these days can not be far ahead, given where we are as a society, as a country, and as a world.

When my niece was little and she wanted to give you a choice between two things - she'd wave them both in front of you and say - "Choose Out!"  And I think GOD is being very clear in using LOTS of different medium in order to prompt us to do the same!  

We need to choose which path we are going to follow.  Choose what we believe.  Choose our God.

And if we do not recognize this time for what it is, and stand idly by without making a choice, that too is a choice - one I believe will have everlasting consequences.

Today yet another Christian movie comes to theatres.  This one, titled Journey to Bethlehem is a musical featuring big name star Antonio Banderas.

But this year playing in theatres nationwide there have also been a number of documentaries (Route 60, and After Death), ones geared at exploring our values (The Blind, and Sound of Freedom), sports related ones (The Hill), and ones geared to inspire (Jesus Revolution)

In addition, there are TV shows like the wildly popular The Chosen, and Young Sheldon which espouse Christian values.

There are apps (You Version, The Bible Project, Abide, and Our Daily Bread) which support daily Bible habits

And there are billboards.  In fact I saw one yesterday that simply said, "I love you - God"

God is using the things around us to say - "I'm here.  I love you.  I want you for my own.  Do you choose me?"

It is time - as Emma would say - to "CHOOSE OUT!"

"This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses.  Now choose life, so that you and your children may life and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him." - Deuteronomy 30:19

Hi there - today is my 400th post and I am wrestling a bit... so I'm asking for your prayers. The Journey to the Cross (Day 4 - THE LADDER)

In the city of Jerusalem stands a church called  The Church of the Holy Sepulcher.   It has been proposed as the place of both the death and resurrection of Jesus, and it has been a place for pilgrimages since the 4th century. Considered holy, the site is cared for by no less than six denominations including Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Roman Catholic, Coptic, Ethiopian and Syriac Orthodox.  As such, it has been carefully parsed out into sections.  And sadly, arguments and violent clashes are not uncommon. Jim visited the church once on a trip with Northridge and told me about "The Immovable Ladder".  Apparently the ladder is a " bizzare outcome of religious stubbornness pushed to extremes. The Journey to the Cross (Day 3 - ONLY JESUS)

Today’s Holy Week post has me thinking about the 12 disciples. ONLY JESUS Can you name Jesus' 12 disciples?  If you've been watching The Chosen or reading your Bible regularly, you might be able to.  However - there are some, who - at least for me, are a bit in the shadows. Sure I know Simon/Peter, and his brother Andrew .  And then there was James and John, the sons of Thunder (or Zebedee to be exact).  There was Matthew, and Thomas, and Judas Iscariot.  And there was Simon the Zealot, and another James...but...but...a nd here is where my mind isn't as good at remembering.   So I Googled it. There was also Philip - a Jewish man from Bethsaida who apparently was the one to tell Nathaniel (another lesser known disciple) that "The One" Moses and the prophets had foretold in the Old Testament, was here.  Following Jesus' death Philip became a missionary in Greece and for his outspoken faith proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God - Philip was stoned and...
