Faith and Trust...(No Pixie Dust)
In the Disney Movie Peter Pan, Peter calls on Wendy, Michael and John to use faith, trust, and pixie dust in order to fly.
Yet only two of the three of them have any power..
In the Bible we see that faith is critical. The author of Hebrews 11:6 writes, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
Over and over again Jesus tells people, "your faith has healed you."
It happened in Luke 18:42 when Jesus heals a blind man. Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has healed you."
It happened with the woman whose years of bleeding was healed when she reached out to touch Jesus' cloak. "Jesus turned, and seeing her said, 'Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well,' and instantly the woman was made well." - Matthew 9:22
Jesus said it to the leper who returned to thank him after being healed. "And he said to him, 'Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.'" Luke 17:19
And He said it to the woman who anointed his head with oil. "Then he said to the woman, 'Your faith has saved you. Go in peace." Luke 7:50
But faith will only get you so far. With faith you must also have trust.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
"But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave on the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." - James 1:6
"Abram believed the Lord, and he credited to him as righteousness." - Genesis 15:6
Faith and trust go hand in hand.
You must have faith in God and know that He can do anything. And you must trust that God hears you, that He loves you, and that He wants the best for you. You must believe that He has a purpose for your life and that He will give you what you NEED (though not always what you want). And you must trust Him for your salvation, for you do not deserve it, and you cannot earn it.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:8-9
