Tiny Bubbles and Small Voices
I have often said when God wants you to listen, He'll give you the same message over and over again until FINALLY it sinks in and you HEAR it.
Such was the case this week with the name Salieri, the persistent notion about the Armor of God, and (you won't believe this...) the song Tiny Bubbles by Don Ho.
That silly song is one I have heard in my head for at least a week now with no idea why. I FINALLY decided to investigate.
When I googled the song, I found the lyrics to be sappy, and romantic - so that wasn't it. So then I googled "Don Ho and God" and a story from Inspiration Ministries gave me the answer I'd been looking for..
Apparently Don Ho's drummer, Ron Lee, was a Hawaiian born musician who had been raised Catholic, before marrying a Jewish woman and converting. On May 20, 2002 at 10pm Ron says he was doing some work and had the TV on in the background when some "churchy-sounding music" began to play. Don says he tried to change the channel, but it wouldn't change no matter how hard he tried. He says he was thinking "there must be something wrong with the remote," when he heard a "still small voice" in his spirit saying, "You need to watch this!"
As Ron looked at the TV the minister looked directly into the camera and said, "There is somebody out there who still doesn't know Jesus Christ. Pray this prayer with me."
At that point Ron dropped to the floor and began weeping uncontrollably. He says he felt as if God had draped a warm blanket over him. He claims he heard that same "voice of the Holy Spirit" inside of him and responded, "from this day forward I promise to seek You in prayer."
After Ron's dramatic conversion, he found himself writing countless songs. But despite the good work God was doing in Ron's life, he and his wife still didn't go to church.
One day as he was driving past a church he'd often seen, he heard that same "still small voice" say, "go in". When he did, Ron says, "a fragrance fell from the ceiling as sweet as dozens of bouquets of roses" and he felt God touch his head. He then heard God say, "I want you to preach."
Ron says he responded, "I'm a drummer, not a preacher - put me in a praise band instead," but then God said - "It's not about your comfort, Ron. This is what I want you to do." So, at age 55, Ron entered the seminary and he's been preaching in churches in North Carolina and Hawaii ever since - and now, he says his life is overflowing with blessing.
Now here is the point - MOST of us probably won't have supernatural spiritual experiences like tv remotes that won't work, or the smell of roses wafting from overhead...but, if we stay quiet and listen - just like Ron we can ALL hear that still small voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to us.
"Be still, and know that I am God." - Psalm 46:10
"Then He said, 'Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.' And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was in in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice." - 1 Kings 19:11-12
