Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas!
In truth - growing up as a kid - Christmas Day meant PRESENTS! LOTS AND LOTS of them.
I remember many a Christmas where we'd end up taking a break mid-morning to get "refreshed" so we could carry on because presents covered every inch of the floor of our living room. Sadly, in all honesty - we tend to repeat things we grew up with, so my house this year won't be much different... 😕
It is as if in my mind, I have equated gifts with love. e.g. - "I love you so I'll give you a present." or, "I love you LOTS so I'll give you LOTS of presents."
But no matter how many presents I put under that tree - it doesn't take long after they're all opened and all of the wrapping paper and bows have been tossed aside, that those gifts I bought become just MORE STUFF.
More stuff to clutter closets and fill drawers. More stuff to have to find places for in the house. More stuff people don't need - and often don't even want...
There is only ONE Christmas gift that satisfies long term. One that never goes out of fashion. One that doesn't clutter and doesn't wear out. One that continues to satisfy day after day, year after year.
It is the gift of Jesus. The gift God gave us when He sent His son to live the perfect sinless life, and then take all of our sins to the cross and grave with Him. The gift that reconciles our sinful selves to God, and gives us a path back to Him.
Jesus - the perfect gift.
Today my wish for you is that you have received this gift, opened it - and are enjoying the very merriest of Christmases.
"And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ." - 2 Corinthians 5:18
P.S. - I've already told my friends and family that NEXT YEAR - instead of a living room full of presents, I'm filling my car with toys and taking them to the local Children's hospital!
