Wake Up Little Susie

The Everly Brothers once wrote a song called, "Wake Up Little Susie."  In it, the lyrics talk about a couple who overslept and who - because of it, are going to be in trouble...

The other day I overslept.

For me, that's a fairly rare occurrence as I'm one who generally subscribes to Ben Franklin's "early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise" advice.

However, last week when my eyes finally opened, I KNEW I hadn't gotten up at my usual time because the sky was light.

DRAT!  I HATE the feeling of waking up and knowing I am ALREADY behind schedule!

...

The Bible sometimes uses sleep as a metaphor for those who don't know God:

"Wake up, sleeper, rise for the dead, and Christ will shine on you." - Ephesians 5:14

It warns us not to be caught "sleeping" when Jesus returns:

"Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back - whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.  If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping." - Mark 13:35-36

Friends, we are called to turn from sin to Christ, and to use His life as a model for our own.

In a world where evil is disguised as virtue (e.g - abortion is a right, Satan has established himself in churches <read my TST post from 12/4>, and we are "bigoted" if we don't support the LGBTQ+ ideology <especially for children>, etc., etc.), vigilance is more crucial than ever.

In his letter to the Romans, Paul says: "And do this, understanding the present time.  The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.  The night is nearly over, the day is almost here.  So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light." - Romans 13:11-12

Let us work to be certain we are AWAKE and ALERT!
