FAITH "Like a Child"

When I was a young girl in Sunday school our teacher taught us a song.  It went like this...

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.

Little ones to Him belong; they are weak, but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me!  Yes. Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me!  The Bible tells me so.

Such a simple song - but I believed it!

Now I had never read the Bible, so I didn't actually KNOW the Bible told me how much God loved me, or the lengths He would go to FOR me.

I just knew that in singing this song I felt happy.  I felt loved.  I felt that there was someone strong who cared for me and who was always looking out for me.

THAT'S the faith of a child.

A child doesn't get all caught up in the "What if's" or the "Hows".  A child just believes.

As children we are encouraged to believe in all sorts of things - Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy...

And maybe that's the reason so many adults fall away from God.  Maybe some adults believe that just like those other characters, God is simply a myth we were taught when we were young.

But that simple song has a clue - a key to help us understand that God is different...it is the Bible.

The Bible - that crazy, wonderful, incredible book that was written over a period of 2,000 years, by over 40 different authors living on three continents.  The Bible is God's love letter to us; and in reading it, we can rediscover the faith of a child.

"Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." - Luke 18:17

"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17

  1. I love that we have the Bible to teach us to trust in God! Nothing else compares to giving us proof to believe in Him unlike Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny! I never thought of these as not having solid proof to believe.
