Repentance is the key

“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” - Mark 1:15

This is today’s “date verse.”  It’s a good one.

I read something that talked about the scariest verbal exchange in the Bible, and in fact I’ve written about them here.  It goes something like this:

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my father is in heaven.  Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” - Matthew 7:21-23

Alas, I think there are many people who still believe we can “earn” our way into heaven by our own good works?   After all - these people were doing many great things in the name of Jesus.

But that is not our call.

The key to heavens gate is repentance.

We must humble ourselves before God, and recognize it is ONLY through HIS “works”, that we have a chance at heaven, then we must turn from sin and repent.
