Storm's A Comin'



How does God talk to you?

With me - even though I'm not a math girl, it is often through numbers.

This morning - as with most mornings, my day began when the two dogs who sleep in our bedroom started their mornings with a vigorous shake.

Today, that happened at 6:47.  

When I heard it, I opened my eyes and thought, "Wow - 6:47 and it's still dark," but I felt God whispering, "Write about 6:47". 

"Okay," I thought, I will - but then I rolled over.

A few moments (or, what felt like a few moments) later, I heard the dogs shaking again.  This time it was NOT 6:47, but 7:23 and the sky was no longer dark - but red.  "Write about it," came the feeling again.

So, I got up and Googled "Bible 6:47".  Here is the result:

"As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like.  They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.  When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.  But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation.  The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." - Luke 6:47-49

My friends, do you remember the old saying, "Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning - red sky at night, sailors delight"?

I need only look at this morning's sky to tell you that a storm is coming.  One which is foretold over and over again throughout the Bible.  One in which God will know who built their "houses" on sand and the things of this world - and who built their "houses" on the solid foundation that is the redemption of our souls through the blood of Jesus Christ.

"but I gave them this command:  Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people.  Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you". - Jeremiah 7:23

Hi there - today is my 400th post and I am wrestling a bit... so I'm asking for your prayers. The Journey to the Cross (Day 4 - THE LADDER)

In the city of Jerusalem stands a church called  The Church of the Holy Sepulcher.   It has been proposed as the place of both the death and resurrection of Jesus, and it has been a place for pilgrimages since the 4th century. Considered holy, the site is cared for by no less than six denominations including Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Roman Catholic, Coptic, Ethiopian and Syriac Orthodox.  As such, it has been carefully parsed out into sections.  And sadly, arguments and violent clashes are not uncommon. Jim visited the church once on a trip with Northridge and told me about "The Immovable Ladder".  Apparently the ladder is a " bizzare outcome of religious stubbornness pushed to extremes. The Journey to the Cross (Day 3 - ONLY JESUS)

Today’s Holy Week post has me thinking about the 12 disciples. ONLY JESUS Can you name Jesus' 12 disciples?  If you've been watching The Chosen or reading your Bible regularly, you might be able to.  However - there are some, who - at least for me, are a bit in the shadows. Sure I know Simon/Peter, and his brother Andrew .  And then there was James and John, the sons of Thunder (or Zebedee to be exact).  There was Matthew, and Thomas, and Judas Iscariot.  And there was Simon the Zealot, and another James...but...but...a nd here is where my mind isn't as good at remembering.   So I Googled it. There was also Philip - a Jewish man from Bethsaida who apparently was the one to tell Nathaniel (another lesser known disciple) that "The One" Moses and the prophets had foretold in the Old Testament, was here.  Following Jesus' death Philip became a missionary in Greece and for his outspoken faith proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God - Philip was stoned and...
