Hard Things
As humans, we will face many hard things in life. Death is certainly one of those hard things.
It doesn't matter if it is the death a child, a parent, or even a pet - death stings.
Yesterday I had to put my dog, Buddy, down. Buddy the loyal and faithful companion who has gotten me through some really hard days.
It was time. Buddy no longer had control of his bladder, he was rail thin, most of his hair had fallen out, and this morning a new symptom - every movement caused him to whimper.
And while I've known this day was coming for a long time - it didn't make my decision or the action any easier.
But two things DID help.
The first was the offer from my husband and sister to be there with me at the veterinarian when Buddy got his last shot.
The second was this verse, "I know your deeds, your love and your faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first." - Revelation 2:19
I’ve heard people say dogs don’t go to heaven…but today I hope that’s not true. I hope when I get there I’ll see Buddy, wagging his tail and welcoming me home.
