Nailed It!

Jim tells me that when he was little, his grandma used to make a lamb cake each Easter; and early in our relationship he bought a mold so we could do the same.

I haven't used the mold yet because I've seen too many "nailed it" memes where the subject of the meme IS a lamb cake.

On the left you have the one created by some professional using all of the right tools.  Then on the right you have the sad substitution, usually with the caption, "Nailed It!"

Today I'm thinking about those cakes, and how they are a lot like life.

There are plenty of people out there who are not interested in knowing Jesus.  If they believe in heaven at all, most think it is something they will get to because they're "good people".

After all, they obey the commandments - they don't steal, they don't kill, they don't commit adultery..  Maybe they even give money to charities, and go to church...

But what they don't recognize is that no matter how "good", or "kind", or "charitable" or "religious" they are - it would never - COULD never be enough.  And what they are offering is a poor substitution for Jesus.

Romans 20:23 says, "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

And Romans 6:23 tells us - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

As I watch the message of the Gospel and Christianity become more and more "center stage" in the world with TV shows like "The Chosen" and prime time commercials about how "Jesus Gets Us", I feel certain God is saying, "choose!"

"...I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Now choose life, so that you and your children may live..." (Deuteronomy 30:19)

And I know that in choosing the path to take, the only "nailed it" that restores, is the one that put Jesus on the cross.
